The Ministry of the Solicitor General and the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after a drone crashed into the Quinte Detention Centre carrying contraband over the weekend.
The ministry confirmed that the drone crash-landed into an outdoor exercise yard used by inmates at the institution in Napanee on Saturday. The OPP were called to provide perimeter security while detention centre officers responded to the incident.
The institution was partially locked down on Saturday but has since returned to normal operations.
“We would like to commend our staff for their professionalism during this incident,” the ministry said in a statement to the Whig-Standard. “It would be inappropriate to provide further details given the ongoing police and ministry investigations.”
